VISION ENVIRONMENTAL GOAL 2030

We work with a large number of plastic recycling companies around Europe. And we place high demands on the producers that are hired. We demand that the products are of high quality and that they are 100% recycled plastic, in addition to the plastic being recyclable.

Markskydd i Väst AB has since its inception aimed to offer innovative solutions to the construction industry and other markets where there is a need to protect land and the environment from human impact. Such an impact can take many forms, such as construction sites, events, animal husbandry and much more. Through close collaboration with well-chosen suppliers, Markskydd i Väst develops its products to maintain the highest environmental standards that can be found on the market. This means in particular a strong drive to use recycled plastic that would otherwise have gone to incineration because it is considered “ugly plastic”.

Our products have a requirement to be made of 100% recycled plastic, where we work towards achieving the same figure regarding recyclable. In 2021, all our LDPE-based products will be both made of fully recycled plastic and recyclable, and we have been able to offer our customers to take care of the products after their service life has expired. The products are taken care of and granulated again to be able to be used again.

We align our and our business partners’ work towards the UN’s sustainability goals

Global goals - plastic

IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE COMPANY’S GOODS AND SERVICES

1.1 ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

We have made the company’s employees aware that the goods and services the company sells have an impact on the environment. (Ex on environmental goals that are affected: All goals)

Pro: minus emissions

Partly because the products emit less CO2, as as an alternative today you burn this plastic (instead of making soil protection from it), which gives a greater CO2 emission compared to manufacturing ground protection mats.

And partly because ground protection made of recycled plastic gives a smaller CO2 footprint compared to other alternative ground protection.

Con: Improvements left to make

We have two more products in the entire range that do not give minus emissions and these are products that we work to phase out through clear and distinct information to customers, as well as the development of our minus emissions products so that they become stronger alternatives for customers.

This is done, among other things, through collaboration with RI.SE and VGR in the development of “ugly plastic” used in the production of Plastic Bogmats, to replace steel plates and wooden bog mats.

IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE COMPANY’S PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

2.1 ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS

By 2021, we have carried out an analysis of how the company’s goods and services affect the environment, both positively and negatively. We have identified, quantified and set goals for the essential environmental aspects. (Examples of environmental goals that are affected: All goals)

Environmental calculations

  • Put up a data factory where we work with the reduction of CO2 footprint equivalents. Demonstrated minus the emission of the CO2 footprint in the production of ground protection with only 100% recycled and recyclable plastic products.
  • Developed methods to show a fingerprint regarding the Co2 imprint that the shipments of our products constitute for our customers
  • Together with RI.SE, have obtained calculations for the reduction of Co2 equivalent footprint when replacing Wood and (Brazilian) Hardwood log mats, as well as Steel plates with our Recycled Plastic bog mats.

2.2 TRANSPORT

We hire contractors with trucks with the latest three euro classes for transport. We take care of, and continuously evaluate, that our transport partners meet the latest environmental requirements internally and in their transport fleets. (Ex on environmental targets affected: Limited climate impact, Sea in balance, Fresh air, Only natural acidification, No eutrophication, Living lakes and watercourses).

RAW MATERIALS

3.1 RECYCLABLE RAW MATERIAL

In 2030, Markskydd i Väst AB has increased the proportion of recycled raw material to 100% in the goods we manufacture and sell. 98.11% of all products sold in 2021 are made from 100% recycled and recyclable plastic. (Ex on environmental goals concerned: Generation goal, Living forests, Limited climate impact)

Pro: Development of recycled plastic

In 2021, Markskydd i Väst AB has worked to develop the type of recycled plastic we use in our products. The goal is to achieve a higher proportion of “ugly plastic” in the products to reduce the CO2 equivalent footprint more than we do today.

Con: Left to go

Today we have a few products left that are not created from 100% recycled plastic. The goal is to, through training of the market and customers, phase out these products and get customers to switch to more environmentally friendly alternatives that we also offer. Of the total number of products sold in 2021, these products account for 1.89% of our sales. The goal is to bring that share down to 0% by 2025.

3.2  IN 2025, THE COMPANY HAS INCREASED THE SHARE OF RENEWABLE RAW MATERIALS IN THE GOODS THE COMPANY MANUFACTURES AND SELLS.

RISE 2020-03-09; The LDPE tiles are so clean that they can be “Recommended” by the Building Product Assessment and must also be recycled after use (Ex on environmental goals that are affected: The Generation goal, Limited climate impact)

We have several different plastic compositions in our products that we work to get recommended by building product assessment, in collaboration with our stakeholders and research partners.

3.3 CO2 EQUIVALENT FOOTPRINT

Until 2030, the company has achieved an annual saving of Co2 Equivalent footprint of 14,250,000 Kg Co2.

To achieve this goal, we should involve NGOs, government agencies and academia, to teach the market the need to go all the way with recycled and recyclable plastic. This specifically applies to construction work as well as all markets, as ground protection and plastic tiles have many areas of use.

Sustainability

All our plastic products are manufactured to meet the toughest emission regulations in the world. Working closely with our suppliers to meet our own strict high standards makes it easy for customers’ projects.

We use only 100% recycled plastic, and ensure that there are no contaminants that are in conflict with REACH, the candidate list or that are listed in BASTA’s * eligibility criteria, in our plastic.

Where they are made

Our manufacturing facilities produce a complete range of core materials of the highest quality to improve both the stability and appearance of the finished panels. Only 100% recycled plastic is used in production!

We only use European manufacturing facilities that we work very closely with and are at the forefront when it comes to using the plastic that no one else wants.
